While none of us ever want to think about going down some day on our bikes, the possibility is always there. I have 2 dogs, a cat, and a rabbit that depend on me or my wife for their food. Well, maybe not the cat. Recently, my wife went out of town for a week. With her gone, the animals are my total responsibility. I had to consider what would happen to the 5 month old puppy, at home, locked in a dog crate, if for some reason, I didn’t make it back from a ride. She would be without food, stuck in the crate until someone came for her, which could be a long time. To avoid the possibility of that happening, I came up with the idea of giving a neighbor a key to the house along with letting them know when I’m leaving for a ride, and when I expect to return. When I get back, I call them to let them know. If I don’t return and call within the time frame I gave them, they know to check on, and take care of the pets until one of us can get home. When you have animals, it’s your responsibility to see to it that they are taken care of properly, wether you are there or not. Make sure you also plan for their care during emergencies. Ride well and ride safe.

Great looking dog you have there!
How about taking her on a bike ride with you? Would she fit on the back?
Love you site. Will you post photos of the areas you visit while riding your bike? Would like to see the area.

Great article. This is something that’s not talked about much, but it ought to be considered and planned for by riders. I’m glad you brought it up.
